Installation

Getting started with PhishGuard

An administrator installs PhishGuard once, centrally, in Microsoft 365. After that the button appears in Outlook for the users you’ve chosen.

What you need

  • Microsoft 365 with Exchange Online.
  • A user with the Global Administrator or Exchange Administrator role.
  • Your PhishGuard API key (it’s in the welcome email).

1. Add PhishGuard in the Microsoft 365 admin center

  1. Sign in at admin.microsoft.com.
  2. Go to Settings → Integrated apps.
  3. Choose Upload custom apps and the app type Office Add-in.
  4. Choose Provide link to manifest file, paste the link below and click Validate.

  1. Choose who should get PhishGuard – for example Entire organization – and complete the deployment.
It takes a little while. Microsoft says it can take up to 24 hours before the button appears in Outlook for every user. That’s completely normal.

2. The first time an employee uses PhishGuard

  1. Open an email in Outlook.
  2. Click BitTech PhishGuard in the ribbon. In Outlook on the web and the new Outlook, the button may be under Apps.
  3. Click Analyze this email and enter the API key when PhishGuard asks for it.

The key is saved in the user’s Outlook profile and follows them across computers. Only share it inside your organisation – it gives access to analyses on your account.

Something not working?

  • The button doesn’t appear: Wait up to 24 hours after deployment and restart Outlook. Check that the user is included in the deployment.
  • "Invalid API key": Make sure the whole key was copied with no spaces. After a trial ends, the key stops working.
  • The button is greyed out: Open the email itself. PhishGuard works on received emails, not drafts.
